Steve's Road to Recovery

On April 27th, in a split second, Steve’s entire life changed. He was hit by a car that crossed the median at 55+ miles an hour and plowed right into Steve’s truck and the work trailer that he was towing. The truck was totaled, the cap was flung off the back and landed in the woods on Route 17 South, the trailer was completely sheared off the hitch. Steve was pinned in the truck and his leg and foot were crushed along with sustaining a fracture in his neck. The first responders had to cut him from the wreckage. His dogs were with him - he doesn’t go anywhere without Bell and Piper. Steve is a self-employed contractor – he makes his living repairing and building structures – it is physical work. Right now, he has no way to continue to work and support his family. Because of a driver’s negligence – a driver who was being aggressive and exhibiting road rage with another car going north – a driver who has no insurance – a driver who has a police record as long as your arm. Steve spent ten days in the hospital and now has rods in his leg where the tibia and fibula were shattered. His foot was crushed and he is facing multiple surgeries to repair the heel and top of his foot. He cannot bear any weight on his leg for at least four months – no idea what the final prognosis on his foot will be. He has been in unbelievable pain and has suffered many sleepless nights. The hospital bills are mounting and have already exceeded $100,000 and with two more surgeries required for his foot there is no telling what the final costs will be. Steve has retained a lawyer in hopes of gaining some financial restitution. We’ll see.

If you would like to assist with the financial burden, any donation would be greatly appreciated. All funds raised will go directly to Steve’s medical costs.

Steve is so grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support. He has always bragged about all the good people that he knows and works with – they have proven that our community is strong. Neighbor helping neighbor.
