Toy Drive to benefit IHAD

Student Council of Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles is organizing this fundraiser to benefit I Have A Dream Foundation Los Angeles.

Dear LycéeLA Community,

Each year, one of our favorite events in Middle School is to coordinate the Toy Drive for the elementary, middle and high school which benefits the "I Have A Dream Foundation" (IHAD) and their students (aka Dreamers).

IHAD is a unique program, which helps underprivileged children by providing a long-term program of academic enhancement with an assured opportunity for higher education. When the Foundation has the necessary funds, they select an entire class of first graders at an underperforming, underserved school in a local low-income neighborhood, regardless of each student’s academic level or disability and follow them for 10 years (up to 12th grade).

We, the Student Council and the LycéeLA Community, have been following two groups of students in the recent years: one group of Dreamers is now in 9th grade (P19), another group is in 4th grade (P20). We have been meeting them each year since they were in 2nd grade, with the exception of last year due to the pandemic.

Due to continued Covid-19 restrictions, we won't be able to meet with the Dreamers in person this year, however, we are able to resume our Toy Drive (accepting actual toy donations) and will also keep the Virtual Drive. We want ensure that we continue to put a smile on the faces of the Dreamers!

They have provided a wish list of items for the Toy Drive and mentioned that gift cards are the best option for the high school students. We are hoping to provide a $30 gift card to each of the 65 Dreamers in 9th grade (P19), hence we have set up this page.

All the donations exceeding our goal will benefit some of their field trips and program needs, such as their annual weekend trip to Sequoia National Park, a subscription to "Generation Genius", or sporting equipment. A few years ago, the MS Student Council sent the P19 group on a field trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific (see pictures bellow).

Remember, it might be the only gift they receive this year. Please help us spread Holiday Cheer and bring a smile to those less fortunate.
