We, the Klatt family, were exposed to toxic mold in our home and are still dealing with the profound impact it has had over a year later. Four of the most dangerous carcinogenic and neurotoxic types of mold were hidden in the walls, floors, crawlspace and HVAC at levels 1000x higher than normal.
We have moved from place to place since being displaced from our home and lost 90% of our belongings (two 30 yard dumpsters full and several truck / trailers full had to be discarded), but most importantly our health. Both me, Ryan (Dad), and Parker (Son), were the ones most affected by the mold exposure.
Over the course of the year, I have been to the hospital 13 times with 33 days spent there and with over 85 separate appointments with different doctors and specialists. I was bed bound for 5 months and dealt with resulting seizures, blood pressure spikes, neurological issues, inflammation and atrophy in different parts of the brain, vision changes, chronic headaches, immunodeficiency, co-infections, gastrointestinal issues, POTS, chronic fatigue, vertigo, shortness of breath, chest tightness, uncontrollable weight loss, sleep issues, joint issues and more that I’m still trying to recover from. Parker developed shortness of breath, tics, eye issues, gastrointestinal issues, learning issues and more.
The financial toll it has taken has accumulated to more than $230,000 between out of pocket medical expenses, treatments, medications and what was lost from our home. And NONE of that was covered by insurance.
I have since been committed to giving back by spreading awareness and advocacy about toxic mold and helping prevent family, friends and others from going through the same nightmare we experienced. I’ve coached many people throughout their journey by offering support and guidance from everything learned along the way.
Please assist our family and donate in helping rebuild our lives after going through this traumatic experience in order to bring back some stability we so desperately need now and for the future.
If you cannot donate, please contribute by sharing this link and our story around.
