Tour de Moray: A Pedal-Powered Challenge for Outfit Moray

On Saturday 11th October, the roads of Moray will come alive with the whirr of wheels and the buzz of community spirit as cyclists set off on the Tour de Moray, a 46-mile, 3,000-ft fundraising ride in aid of Outfit Moray, the Lossiemouth-based charity dedicated to actively developing the potential of young people, their families, and communities through affordable, accessible outdoor learning and adventure.

The ride begins at 9am outside Tesco Forres, with riders immediately tackling the climb over Califer Hill before sweeping into Elgin for an 11am arrival. From there, they’ll follow the picturesque Route 1 cycle trail to Buckie for around 1:30pm, before a final hilly push to the finish line at Tesco Keith at approximately 4pm.

The event is the invention of Paralympic Champion handcyclist Karen Darke, who will be leading the ride alongside fellow handbikers and other riders from the local area. “The Tour de Moray is all about bringing people together, challenging ourselves, and raising vital funds for an incredible cause,” says Darke. “It’s a chance to be part of something fun, active, and full of heart.”

Along the route, Tesco stores are joining the effort in style. Staff at each location will be hopping onto smoothie bikes, blending pedal-powered smoothies for the public — who can also take a turn in the saddle to make their own fruity treat, with all donations going to Outfit Moray.

The ride has also captured the support of Elgin Round Table, whose members will be riding alongside and in stores to boost both morale and fundraising totals.

While spaces for cyclists are limited this year, there are still plenty of ways for the public to get involved:
· Cheer the riders on at Tesco Forres, Elgin, Buckie, or Keith.
· Pedal a smoothie at your nearest store (9am-5pm) and donate to Outfit Moray.
· Pledge your support on the day, or online to help Outfit Moray continue its life-changing work.

“Every mile we ride and every smoothie blended helps Outfit Moray reach more young people and open more doors to outdoor adventure,” adds Darke. “So come along, pedal for your smoothie, and be part of something truly positive.
