Tough Tyler

Donation protected
As most of you may know, the Accardi family has been dealing with an extremely difficult situation. Tyler has been in the hospital for weeks after undergoing the  Halo Gravity  procedure. This surgery was done in an effort to help straighten his spine to prepare him for major back surgery.  The need for this surgery is a result from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and absolutely necessary, as the curvature of his spine was already starting to put pressure on his major organs. ToniAnn has been staying with Tyler since they checked in at the hospital in the beginning of September. Nick and Nicholas visit on the weekends because Nicholas has to be home for school and therapy sessions. This has been such a difficult situation to endure, but they have been amazingly strong through it all.  There have been a few very scary medical concerns, which unfortunately already pushed Tyler’s surgery date out further then expected. This means even more time away from home for both of them.  As I’m sure you could imagine the cost of Nick and Nicholas traveling weekly to the city, is a huge expense.  This is just the beginning of the latest crisis for the Accardi’s. Currently,  nursing coverage is very difficult to find.  Without  this additional support Nick is losing significant time at work to be able to care for Nicholas and be there for ToniAnn and Tyler.  Finances should be the last thing on this family’s mind as they endure such a difficult time.  Please remember that after this surgery, they are still dealing with the medical needs of two little boys with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. The constant fight for medical necessities, and the financial strain of out of pocket expenses still lingers.  The physical therapy that Nicholas and Tyler receive is not covered by insurance and requires an out of pocket expense of $375 weekly.  It is necessary for the boys to continue receiving such extensive physical therapy to prevent the continued muscle deterioration that SMA causes. This therapy, when paired with the  treatments they are receiving has already proven to be somewhat successful. It is also imperative that the equipment the boys need to be healthy and live successful and fulfilling lives, is not financially out of reach. In addition to all of this, as if it wasn’t already enough, ToniAnn has postponed two surgery dates for her own necessary back surgery. She now has several herniated discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica and athritis. She is pushing through debilitating pain on a daily basis. She will have to schedule her surgery after Tyler is home and fully recovered. Due to the physical demands and daily stress of their situation she was suddenly diagnosed with Bells Palsy in July of 2018 and has still not recovered from that. As the downward spiral continues so will emotional and financial hardship for this family.  As parents we often continue do for our children without hesitation.  If there could be a way to help alleviate some of the financial burden, so that they can continue to focus on the most important things for their children wouldn’t that be wonderful? There is enough on their plates without having to think about finances. Many of you have reached out asking how you could help. First and foremost the Accardi family could use your continued thoughts and prayers. Whoever you pray to and whatever you believe, please ask for them to have the strength and courage to fight with everything they have. I am also asking that you find it in your hearts to make a donation to help alleviate some of the financial burden they are facing. No amount is too small and any donation would be greatly appreciated. If we come together as a community we could help make things just a little less overwhelming during this difficult time. Thank you for your continued support! If you would like to send a check, all checks can be made payable to Nicholas and Tyler Accardi 30 Woodland Blvd Centereach, NY 11720  All money raised will be used for any and all financial needs that the family has endured as a result of the situation they are dealing with and is beyond appreciated.
