Tough Mudder Memory Run

Hi I'm Dan, myself and 6 of my colleagues are doing a tough mudder event on the 14th August to raise money for Alzheimer's/ Dementia.

Each of us have personally experienced the impact of having a family member suffer with a form of Alzheimer's at some point in our lives.

"I recently lost my Grandad to dementia. I watched a strong, charismatic man deteriorate slowly. As a family man who shared good values, made us laugh, celebrated our achivments and listened to our opinions. He used his emotional intelligence to become successful and provide our family with the stability we all have today.

What once was a man that would throw me on his shoulders, kick a ball around, chase me up and down the garden was now needing help with simple daily tasks. Due to this the family had to make the unfortunate decision to place him in a care home, so he could receive the support he needed to conduct these simple daily tasks. He remained within the care home for 2 years and unfortunately got moved to palliative care before he could attend mine and my partners wedding day. He remained there for 3 months in a deep trance with no recognition of family or friends visiting. The only occasion he made contact with any visitor was when his first great grandson came to meet him for the first time and opened his eyes shortly to greet the new addition of the family".

1 in 6 people in the UK will suffer from a form of Alzheimer's throughout there lifetime.

850,000 people in the UK live with dementia

225,000 will develop dementia this year this equates to one every three minutes

UK government spends 2.5 billion every year on social care where as sufferers of dementia pay 8.3 billion for the care themselves.

Money raised from this run will be supporting Alzheimer's research program with the hope that one day they will be able to create a cure.
