My name is Tot Jok and basketball is my passion.
So much so that one day I wish to play at the highest level possible. I believe I can achieve this too.
Because I have the ability, the talent and the drive to be my very best.
I arrived in Australia from South Sudan in 2005 with my mother and 5 siblings. I am from a very strong South Sudanese family and community, and most of all, I am proud of my heritage. My two brothers are also good athletes with my brother Tom drafted by AFL team Essendon this year.
I would like to follow in the footsteps of other South Sudanese athletes that have competed at college in the USA such as Deng Adel, Thon Maker, Mangok Mathiang & Jo Lual-Acuil.
To achieve this my aim is to receive a USA college scholarship to further my basketball and schooling. Playing college basketball is one way that allows me to progress my basketball and continue my education.
Getting this exposure is extremely beneficial. Having the opportunity to play in front of college scouts against high school players in the USA, in the hope that my talents and qualities will be recognised and rewarded would be the ultimate success for me.
My plans were disrupted late last year as I suffered a knee injury. This has set me back a little but the good news is that my rehabilitation is progressing well and I will be back on the court soon.
So here's where the story can become a reality.
An opportunity has come my way to participate in a USA tour in December 2019 with Vermont Vultures Basketball Club. The coach of the team is Scott Nicey, who coached me at championship level last year. Scott is a strong advocate that this will be greatly beneficial for me.
I want to help the Vultures team compete against USA High Schools, in the hope that College scouts can appreciate my talent, with the ultimate hope of getting a sporting scholarship
Vermont Vultures have given me this opportunity and I am thankful for their support. I hope you will be able to support me too.
