Hello, my name is Guinevere Hernandez. I am the Nurse at Taos Charter School. I have had the pleasure of getting to know the Trujillo-Torrence family because their 7 year old son was diagnosed last August with Type 1 Diabetes (Insulin Dependent) and requires my continual monitoring when at school. The staff at Taos Charter School and I have created this GoFundMe in hopes of providing this wonderful family with some financial resources to begin rebuilding their lives as they have lost everything material. This past weekend was Lorrie (my student’s mother’s) Birthday. While they were out having dinner and going to the movies, they received a terrible, unexpected phone call that their house was on fire. By the time they arrived home they found their home and all their belongings completely burned to the ground. Both my student and his father are Diabetic. All of their insulin, diabetes test strips/supplies, glucometer, transmitters and medications were also lost in the fire. This has created another level of stress and expense for this family. Unfortunately their home was not insured either. I am hoping that our community of Taos and beyond will find it their hearts to help by donating to this fund. All funds will go directly to the family for housing, clothing, medications/supplies, food, etc. Thank you to all who took the time to read this and chose to donate. TRUJILLO-TORRENCE HOUSE FIRE UPDATE: 8/11/2023

It has been 74 days since the housefire. We visit the fire site everyday as we still have our chickens on the other side of the fire site. We were unable to move any fire debris for 30 days due to the toxicity and potential latent embers. We were able to get assistance in obtaining a roll off dumpster and a volunteer with excavation equipment to start site clean up recently. We were able to clean one-third of the site. The volunteer stated he has worked at previous sites like ours and he had never seen so much ash. He stated that the fire must have burned so hot that most items were reduced to ash. We have found a few photos and ceramic and micaceous clay pottery that were in the home. With the community’s generosity Trey has been able to enjoy a reprieve from the constant reminder of our loss. Thanks to the following organizations. Taos Youth Basketball summer camp Coach Billy and staff; Little Bear Spiritual Wellness Center Kristen Rivera and dedicated summer staff; St Francis de Asis Church “I shine with the light of Jesus” Summer camp; and Coach Dan Laab . A huge thanks to William and Bernice Cisneros for allowing us access to safe and comfortable housing while the clean up and living situation transition happens. We are planning for more debris clean up this weekend. We are still in need of a cooking stove and clothes dryer. Most importantly we need people with a vehicle and a strong back to move those items. Your continued prayers and positive thoughts have been a source of great comfort and support during this most unexpected life event.
