Toro Canyon Landslide Relief Fund

February 17th was, as you all know, one of the worst storms to hit California.  Our friend, Arthur Hubbard spent the better part of 25 years in the beautiful Los Padres National forest caring for his precious corner of Toro Canyon. At about 1:30 pm, Arthur's home was hit by a massive landslide, which tore through the eastern building and swallowed everything in its path including his Woodshop, Garage and even his Vehicle.

When dawn broke the next day, we saw the path of carnage and mangled oak trees that led to a driveway about 150 yards up the steep hill that had failed and brought with it, a 2 story slab of earth and ate an 85 foot wide portion of the road.

We are now a couple of days in and the damage is still being unturned. The guest house was condemned today, which broke Arthur's heart. A collection of tools and private belongings are ruined and the work that will be required to clean this up is staggering. The worst part of all this, there are no insurance policies that cover this type of damage.

Arthur will come back from this. He's bruised and heartbroken, but that positive smile and cheeky sense of humor we all love to see, remains. There are long-term solutions in place for the rebuild funds, though not guaranteed. This will cost tens of thousands of dollars to repair and he will front the bulk of it.

We all know how much this man has done for us. Even if it was just a little joke that we didn’t understand because he's so damn intelligent, he has still touched so many lives in a positive way. I ask you all, please, don’t just blow this one off. Even if it’s a small amount, look deep into your hearts and help this amazing human.

I'm writing to ask you all on his behalf to raise enough money to donate to the cleanup efforts and to show how much we all love and care about Arthur Hubbard. Keep in mind, that if Arthur and his dear friend Angela Boyd were 10 FEET to the left of where they were standing when that hillside gave way, this would not be the same story. The photos do not do justice, it’s unlike anything I have ever seen. Thank you all so much.
