I’m struggling to find the way to begin this request. I write this full of gratitude to the angel(s) that guided my Mom to safety, the wonderful community that continues to surround her in this difficult time, and most importantly, that my Mom wasn't physically hurt.
To my friends within the WNEM TV 5 NEWS viewing area: “the woman” that you have been hearing about who decided to get out of bed literally moments before a massive tree crashed through her roof and fell on that same bed, is my 82-year old Mom. https://www.wnem.com/2025/05/16/trees-crash-into-homes-power-lines-during-severe-mid-michigan-storms/
On Thursday, May 15 around midnight, a tornado came through the small community of St. Charles, MI taking down and uprooting many trees including the huge one that landed in my Mom's bed.
My mom, Pat Rehmus, has lived in her home for 56 years. She is the strongest woman I know, who cared for her chronically ill husband while working full time, putting herself through school to become a medical assistant, raising two kids, and being an active member of the Village of St. Charles...and she got herself out of that bed just in time to save her own life.
I broke down as I walked into my Mom's home and found a note taped to the wall by her desk. It reads, "GOD: Pat, do not rush the process. Everything will work out. I will not fail you. It will all unfold in my perfect timing. Trust me."
There are many unanswered questions at the moment about how long she will need temporary housing and where that will be or what that looks like. For now, here’s what we know: SHE IS SAFE, she has the best neighbors anyone could ever, ever hope for, and unfortunately, there will be many upcoming unknown expenses. We set the goal to $1 because any little bit will help!
Thank you to everyone that has reached out and asked how they can help. Please continue praying for Mom, the community of St. Charles, and, if you are able, please consider a contribution to help my Mom in this time of need.
