On Father's day John had just ended his shift and headed home for the night.
Shortly after getting home a tornado alert started buzzing from his phone. Luckily his son was still with his mother at the time, so he took shelter with the dogs. While taking cover John heard chaos erupt in his kitchen and after waiting decided to check it out. His kitchen window had just busted open, the wind caught his dining room table and tossed it(smashing a Tv and PlayStation at the same time), his tip money from the night blew right out the broken window and the destruction started to just pile around him. He ran back up to his bedroom to find the roof torn off and rain and wind pouring in directly over his bed. He went into his sons room to find a piece of someone else's roof had ripped thru the wall into his son's room. The main living room wall connected to his living room that is a major support wall had been torn off the foundation.
An EF-3 level tornado had just hit his house and left it uninhabitable and damaged his car. At the end of the day John is just sincerely grateful that his son wasn't home during destruction. He spent the next few sleepless days trying to salvage anything that he could save. While awaiting more information from his insurance agency John is staying with family and living with what they could save.
I can't imagine the heartbreak and trauma that comes from loosing your home this way or how hard it really is to try to rebuild your life. During the past few days John hasn't asked anyone for anything but people have been asking me how they can help. So I am setting up this GofundMe.
John is always such a great host. He might of even taken care of you! You could’ve seen him at Bds Mongolian in Bolingbrook, he was probably making your drinks. Lol. His house was a go to for movie nights, dinners and somewhere you're always welcome to after a hard day. He made sure his home was a safe and comforting place for anyone who may have needed it. He would feed you when you were hungry, make you a bed up when you needed somewhere to spend the night (sleep mask included!) and offer you his own clothing if needed.
My goal here is to help him replace what insurance wont and keep him afloat and comfortable until he can find somewhere new or rebuild. Any help is appreciated. Below are some photos of the damage and happier times as I hope for many more for him and his family.
