Tornado Relief for Katie & Her Girls
On the night of June 20th, Naperville and some surrounding areas experienced an EF-3 tornado. My friend and neighbor Katie , her boyfriend Nick, and 3 girls were all in their bedrooms at the time almost sleeping when it came through with a vengeance towards their home. The girls could barely open their doors as the wind caused a suction, but thankfully were able to get downstairs into their walkout basement, all before a tree branch went through her daughters room. Beyond scary and traumatizing for all.
To that end, several of us have rallied together to help Katie and her girls get back into their home. Unfortunately due to the severe damage to their roof and water damage that seeped through her walls and flooring, there is a ton of work that needs to be done and that could take weeks to finish. Not to mention all the trees that need to be removed and cleaned up (there is a car underneath the tree that was damaged too, btw).
Insurance, while yes covers some, will not compensate her for everything. Her daughter lost almost everything in her room, since that was what had the most damage. They are all staying with her parents now, but nothing like being home in your own bed with your own things.
There have been so many posts all throughout social media, and even my neighbors and friends that have asked what they can do to help, well, here it is. Any amount to help cover costs not expected would be appreciated.
It's going to take some time to heal from such a tragic event. Thank you for your consideration and most importantly for all of the wonderful Naperville folks, volunteers, and tireless city workers who have worked so hard to get us back to "normal" and to give a helping hand. We are lucky to live and be part of such a great community.
