Tornado destroyed Grandpa’s home/critical injury

My 94 year old Grandfather (Norm Johnson) was sitting in his living room recliner when last night’s (Sept. 24th) EF3 Tornado in Elk Mound WI hit his house causing him to be thrown out the window breaking both Ulna’s in his forearms requiring plates and screws in both, the loss of his right pinky finger and causing multiple transverse process fractures in his back.  (My cousin Jamie is keeping me informed on his condition, he is currently in recovery at Mayo in Eau Claire following his surgery).

His wife Helen (95) fortunately faired better but did sustain a bump to her head with some scrapes and bruises.  

We we are truly blessed they survived!!!!

My grandfather (Norm Johnson) built this home back in the 80’s for he and my Grandma Joyce who went to heaven in 1999. He is a retired Eau Claire fireman who also had a landscaping business and tree farm on this beautiful property. He may be 94 but age is only a number to him and Helen who he married in the early 2000’s to enjoy their remaining life together. He and Helen have truly enjoyed living independently at their many acre oasis and planned to keep on doing so!!! 

They will have a long road ahead of them with Grandpa’s recovery, where to live in the interim and rebuild... 

So many friends have reached out asking how they can help and if there is a fund me option to donate to. Your prayers and well wishes for a speedy and strong recovery are so welcomed and really can make a difference!!!

Anyone who knows Grandpa Norm knows he has always prided himself on his independence and ability to take care of his affairs, but with so much to now deal with in the coming days and months a donation of any kind will help to take some of the burden off of him and Helen and allow them to focus on just getting better!!!
