Tori Macia’s Injury Support and Recovery Fundraiser

Hi, my name is Dena Street and my sisters Lori Russaw, Abby Macia, and my Mother Michelle Macia are all fundraising for my sister, Tori Macia. On March 21st 2024, she suffered a serious neck injury due to the actions of a new individual in her life. Since that day, she has been in inpatient medical care in Lincoln, Nebraska. After spending 3 weeks in a hospital bed, unable to walk, move her arms, and do even the basic things to care for herself, she underwent spinal surgery on April 11th.

She regained some of her strength in her arms and movement to her left arm, but is still not able to move her left leg without assistance. That surgery created a new issue and she is now unable to swallow food of any kind. They placed a NG tube to give her much needed nutrition and have been doing swallow studies in hopes to get her back on a normal diet. She has unfortunately not passed these studies and can’t swallow even an ice cube at this point, but it’s still her favorite part of the day. She had a PEG tube surgically placed yesterday, that allows her to get nutrients directly to her stomach through the abdominal wall.

She has been placed in a long term rehabilitation facility where she is expected to spend at least the next 8 weeks. The staff has been amazing and she is working tirelessly to get back to herself. Hopefully she will regain the ability to live a normal life, but we still do not know.

It is so important to me to help my sister, because she never deserved this. I am running this fundraiser to help reduce the burden that she will face with medical bills in addition to the loss of income since she was hurt. She had just started a very promising new career, and just a few weeks later, her entire life is upside down. She is a single Mother of 5, and has had family rally around as much as possible, but it has not been easy from a distance.
