Top Surgery for Tyler Carter
My name is Sarah Harris and I set up this GoFundMe for my brother in law Tyler Carter. He is 28 years old and lives in Oklahoma. Tyler came out as transgender in 2015. He has been transitioning/taking testosterone for 3 years.
For the last 5 years Tyler has been wearing a binder every single day. A binder is a compressive tank top that binds his chest to give it a more masculine appearance. They aren’t supposed to be worn for more than 8 hours a day because it can be dangerous. It can cause issues with his ribs and make it hard for him to breathe, especially in warehouse heat where he works a very physical job 10 hours a day.
Tyler is my family. He would do anything for me and has always been there for me. It is hard for me to see him hurting, feeling uncomfortable and unsafe in his own skin. Most of us cannot imagine what that feels like or the anxiety that can come with it. There have been a lot of crimes against trans people and it is a constant worry for him that someone will notice his chest and he will become a target. I’m asking for help for my brother so that he can be happy and comfortable in his body. So that he doesn’t have to worry about his safety.
The money that I am asking for will go towards his top surgery. The surgery will reconstruct his chest by removing the tissue and will give him a more masculine appearance. He found a wonderful surgeon in North Oklahoma City and it will be $8,000. Unfortunately this surgery is considered elective so his insurance will not cover it.
He has come so far and only has this surgery standing in his way. Everyone should be able to feel safe and comfortable with who they are and in their bodies. I know he would want that for others and would do everything in his power to help someone who was hurting.
I know times are tough for everyone right now but every dollar helps and every share is appreciated, and helps him reach his goal of being comfortable and happy in his own skin. This is my brother and he’s the best one I could have ever asked for.
