Top surgery for Bobby

Donation protected
Hi! I'm Robin and I'm a non-binary queer.

I'm fundraising for my top surgery procedure - something that will be radically life-changing for me.

Being able to address a main source of my dysphoria will really benefit my mental health and day to day life, and help me to finally feel comfortable in my own skin. I have complex mental health problems that interact with my gender dysphoria, and  I have struggled with this since I was a teenager. Depression, anxiety and self-destructive behaviours have led me to some dark places and it has taken a lot of work over the past 15 years to get to where I am today. This next step in my transition would really help me to get to a happier place.

Unfortunately, waiting lists for NHS services are very long and it is unlikely that I would be able to have top surgery even within the next few years. This is why I have taken the decision to try and get surgery privately.

The cost of transitioning so far has come to about £700 (including counselling sessions with the charity MindOut, consultation and assessment with GenderGP and a medical letter for top surgery) - all of which I have been fortunate enough to fund by myself.

However I am looking for some support to raise some money toward the cost of top surgery, which on average comes to around £8000.  I will of course be saving towards this myself but it's a significant amount that I would not be able to get together even within the next few years.

I would be truly grateful for any help you may be able to offer. This surgery really will be life-changing, so thank you for sharing and donating, if you can.

A bit about me: Originally from the north west of England, I've lived in London for over a decade. I work for a mental health charity and am currently studying part-time to learn more about social research. The aim of this is to gain skills to support mental health initiatives by and for marginalised communities. I like running and playing ultimate frisbee. I volunteer for the Tape Letters project, which aims to document spoken letters received and sent to the Pakistani community in the UK during the '70s and '80s. I'm currently trying to learn BSL (check out SignSay, they're a brilliant organisation who share lessons online for free)!
