Top Hat Tom - Medical Expenses and Rehab

Donation protected
[UPDATE 3/10/23] Hi All, sorry for the long period between updates. If you are on facebook, there's more activity there on my dad's feed with updates from me and others who have been able to visit him. He's on one month now in the ICU at Gulf Coast Medical, still off the ventilator and making very slow signs of recovery. He's had some setbacks with excess fluid buildup in his chest and abdomen but the doctors have been able to handle that with no issue. We would have been hoping to send him to rehab by now but he needs more time to get off the feeding tube, get off oxygen, and get off the abdomen drain. So his next step is to go to an LTAC facility (Long Term Acute Care) for up to a month where he can continue to improve and stabilize for proper rehab. We're continuing to be with him every single day and give him our love.

His communication is still very limited to "Yes" and "No" responses but he knows who we are and knows we love him and that you all are supporting him. So thank you all again very much for the continued support. We are doing everything in our power to enhance his health as fast as possible and look forward to getting our dad the best help we can.

[ORIGINAL POST]
Our Father and your friend, Thomas Joseph Schoenmann (Top Hat Tom) has been wronged and is fighting for his life as we speak!

On February 8th, 2023, Tom was riding home on his Harley Davidson Road King when a driver wrongfully cut across two lanes of traffic and hit him. He sustained horrific bodily trauma and severe head trauma. He was unconscious for two weeks, until 3/23/23, but is strong as hell and is showing promising signs of recovery. But this is going to be a long road to recovery, and we are gathering as much support as we can to see him through this. We love our dad, and he loves us. He's a good man, he's hard-working, talented, and one of the most morally sound men you've ever met. He is self-employed with limited health coverage, and the medical bills are already monumental.

The police report determined that our dad is completely not at fault. This was 100% the other driver's fault. He was not speeding and was cut off by their erratic right turn across two lanes. This should never have happened. The other driver was also not insured for liability and injury so there will not be a direct settlement to help our dad with hospital fees.

We've been very grateful to meet a few friends of his and a few people have made some helpful suggestions, including starting this GoFundMe. This account will be the primary source for people to make a contribution for our dad to help cover the costs of his extensive operations and ICU stay, as well as rehab that we hope will be coming in the very near future so that we can see him smiling and riding again as soon as possible.

He is incredibly loved and we all want to see him get better. thank you everyone for the support, it means the world!

Please pass this on and we welcome you to share it for charity rides, or the like. Thank you all and please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
