Tootsie Roll's owner died and Tootsie had nowhere to go, ending up at the Animal Shelter. The local Humane Society pulled her and we became her foster family. At first, the goal was to help her lose weight -- almost 40 pounds! We came to realize, however, that Tootsie had an even bigger issue: She was suffering from untreated glaucoma. Tootsie's right eye is ruptured and useless. Tootsie's left eye is in an active state of glaucoma which means there is very high pressure in the eye and that causes her a great deal of pain. The glaucoma has already robbed Tootsie of her eyesight. The best solution for her is to have both eyes removed. Only then will she be free of pain.
Today, we adopted Tootsie. It's the first step in being able to get her the care she needs. We have started her on multiple eye medications to help with the pain and surgery to remove Tootsie's eyes is tentatively scheduled for February 5th. That surgery will cost approximately $1800. We are hoping that those of you who have followed or now hear of Tootsie's story would be willing to help us help her by donating through this gofundme account. We promise to keep you posted on her progress -- life for Miss Tootsie Roll can only get better from this point on!
