My name is Sydnie. I am Tootsie’s friend and a nurse.
The C word is scary. Then you find out you have it!
Tootsie was camping at Twin Lakes and found blood in her urine. The only medical care available is 100 miles away at the Indian Clinic in Bridgeport, California. This clinic doctor, came out of back room holding the urine specimen, saying “Bulls Eye”. You have a “raging bladder infection.” Tootsie called her regular doctor. Because of the blood and location of her pain, he sent her straight to the hospital for a CT Scan. Tootsie texted me a copy of the CT results. I’m no Oncologist, but, I could see Tootsie has KIDNEY CANCER that has METASTASIZED to her lymph nodes. I couldn’t bear to tell her, when she asked what I thought.
6cm tumor on her left kidney-stage 4. Chemo and radiation do not work on Kidney Cancer. Tootsie got herself into a clinical trial. Unfortunately, this clinical trial doesn’t cover all the costs of medication and treatments. The average kidney cancer treatment cost are $437,556.00. Medicare and Insurance have the patient pay 20% of this cost. We have been comparing Medicare/Insurance options. But the truth is no one can afford Cancer treatments.
Tootsie gets to start her cancer treatments this week. Joe her husband is scared too. He wants to stay home and take care of his wife. But to do this, they both have to isolate in the home. No answering the door or seeing friends. Tootsie’s cancer treatment will lower her body’s ability to fight off even the tiniest germs. If Joe goes back to work, he can bring germs from the outside world into the house. Strange germs could possibly kill her. Tootsie is going to be feeling sick enough from the strong medications she is receiving for the kidney cancer. She doesn’t need any extra germs to combat.
Holidays are coming. Tootsies favorite time of the year. No Christmas tree, No Thanksgiving, No spending time with her family and friends. Tootsie is sad and scared. She is hoping and praying for a Happier New Year.
I started this GO FUND ME to help with the massive medical bills coming their way. Tootsie needs to focus on her health and not stress about financial or if they could lose their home. I am hopeful we can reach the Goal. It is just a drop in the bucket.
Give if you can. Pray if you can’t. Every positive gesture helps in its own way.
Thank you all.
Sydnie
