As I'm sitting here trying to put together the right words that describes how thankful I am for the outpouring amount of love that my family and I have received the past couple of days I am realizing that I am simply at a loss of words. The love that you all have surrounded us in is more than we could have ever imagined. The text messages, facebook messages, shares, likes, comments and kind words are not going unnoticed. We are all truly humbled by the generosity that this small community has offered.
One common message that we have all received is people asking if we have a go fund me. This has been a question that has been very frequently asked since we first got shut down last March. We have held off but desperate times call for desperate measures. This isn't something that we thought about doing. But there has been an overwhelming amount of support and people asking if we have one so....here it is.
To say 2020 was a hard year for everyone is an understatement. I have seen my mom and grandma fight to make ends meet this past year. Something that a lot of people don't know is even though the Tavern is shut down, that doesn't mean that the bills stop or that companies are giving businesses a grace period. The liquor control board, gambling commission and health department still want their licensing fees paid in full as if we were in full operation. Utility bills, taxes, insurance premiums are also expected to be paid. For the Tavern that averages to be roughly $8,500 a month just to be legally open and keep the lights on. That's $42,500 during the shut down last year, and its looking like we can add January to that number too.
Two in a half years ago when I almost lost my mom I saw this community come together in support of her. And then again one year ago for another very well deserving person. There is no doubt in my mind that this community can move mountains. One thing that I have learned is to to not underestimate the small town of Custer. I know that I can speak for everyone in my family when I say this, we will not go down with out a fight and what doesn't kill us will only make us stronger.
