On Wednesday, February 12, 2020 the world lost a great man, loving husband, father, and faithful steward of Jesus. Tony Castaneda was such a shining light to so many, and touched so many lives.
In addition to spending time serving his church, Tony regularly gave his time serving the community, volunteering at the Portland Rescue Mission and The Harbor House. Tony established lasting and meaningful relationships with people from all walks of life, backgrounds, and faiths, and as he grew in his own faith and understanding, his desire to be the kind of man who anyone felt comfortable opening up and talking to became one of his greatest gifts.
His family finds comfort in knowing that before passing, he was finally at peace with his place in this world and that after years of fighting Type 1 diabetes and the chronic health issues associated with that, his body is finally at peace as well.
Tony’s Wife Nichole is fortunate enough to have an incredible amount of family and community support helping her through the first few weeks of shock and grief, but as the shock wears off and the reality sets in, Nichole is going to need more than emotional support. Because of Tony’s diabetes, they were unable to carry life insurance for him which means Nichole is going to be faced with some tough financial decisions in the next few months.
Our goal with this GoFundMe is to help ease Nichole’s immediate financial burden of paying for funeral home costs, rent and utilities without Tony’s income. We would like to raise enough money to help give her a 2 to 3 month buffer, which would allow her to take some time to grieve before dealing with the logistics of adjusting to a single income.
We want to thank everyone for all the love and support being given to Nichole and the girls.
