Hi all, Cher here.  This sweet woman is Tonya, a worker at Brookwood where I'm employed.  Tonya is like many working poor - she makes little money, has no car and cares for her aunt who suffers from a stroke.

I came into work one morning and Tonya was in my office crying.  She needed a ride home, she was in so much pain.  Instead we went to the emergency room, where she insisted I never leave her side.  It was discovered that Tonya has mulitple, large cycts with other complications. She needed a biopsy.

My relationship with Tonya grew out of holding her hand through the ER and the biopsy and Tonya has since added me to her HPPA :-) so I can act on her behalf.
The bioppsy was benign (!);  she is now scheduled for a radical hysterectomy.  I discovered that her "Affordable Care" insurance will cover most of her hospital (they want $745 up front), and NONE of her surgery.  Her doctor will charge her a reduced rate of $1500 to perform the surgery; she is scheduled for the 21st of October.

Her surgery needs to be covered by the 21st. To help cover upfront costs due the hospital and her loss of 1/3 of her paycheck (she will receive short-term disability), I have added an additional $1000.

PLEASE help Tonya.  She would do it for you in spades if she had your good fortune of an education, enabling her to bring home a more livable wage.  I'm glad I got to know Tonya better and grateful that I can make her life easier by holding her hand.  Now you can "hold her hand" and feel grateful for your advantages.

Tonya cannot believe that there are people "out there" who would be willing to help her.  She will be amazed and so very thankful.  She is the hardest worker at Brookwood and will do anything she is asked.  Will you do the same?
