Tony and Amber Sumimoto west Maui family and small business owners that like many lost their family home in Lahaina and their new business opening at the Wharf cinema center. They have two young children Casen 5 who was just starting kindergarden at the same elementary school as his dad King Kamehameha III and little navie 3 years old who had her own garden which was lost to the flames. Tony also lost all of his Tools which is how he sustained the business and was his only source of income. They were lucky to escape with their lives and even the beloved family pet Lilly doggy .. “we had just spent years investing into our rental and spent our life savings building our new business which was bringing so many smiles to Maui Families. Now it’s gone.” Says Amber
I'm Amber's family/friend I was raised in Lahaina, Maui Hawaii since 1992. I'm currently living in Florida and I'm devastated with what has happened in our small town, I'm absolutely heartbroken for everybody that lost there homes businesses and loved ones. I've known Amber since she was a child, she was the best auntie to my children in 2006+ and now she has children of her own. She has a business a home, all the hard work she's put in is now gone. These funds will be use to get her family back on there feet so they can rebuild all that's been lost.
No amount is too little as they will be rebuilding their entire life.
UPDATE: Thank you to all that have donated to our family or anyone in the Lahaina community we are eternally grateful - these contributions have gone to replacing personal belonging, and securing housing. After 6 months of looking for a pet friendly rental we did not succeed but were able to find housing for ourselves and kids while safely housing our beloved pet near by so we could visit her daily, this feels like another loss as well as my father having to move off island and away from the family - the good news is we have the opportunity to build back on the property likely by mid 2025 something I thought wouldn’t be possible but with no help from insurance and at $300 a sqft even building back half of what we had is massive undertaking. We are so grateful for the generosity of so many it is only with your help that we have come this far unfortunately we have a lot further to go but with your consideration combined with our own continued hard work sacrifices and savings we can maybe go home 2025!
Mahalo for helping our family if you are able.
