We are the Henderson family and are starting this fundraiser on behalf of our brother in law, Tony Alvarez and the Alvarez family.

Tony was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis, a rare bone marrow cancer, in 2017. This required him to undergo a stem cell transplant from his donor and daughter, Lauren Alvarez on November 3rd, 2022.

Knowing this procedure was inevitable, Julie and Tony saved well in advance. They relocated from Pennsylvania to Baltimore to be in close proximity to Johns Hopkins Medical Center where he is currently receiving treatment.

Unfortunately, due to many unforeseen complications, Tony has not been able to leave the hospital since the transplant occurred. There is no clear discharge date.

As you can imagine this has been a very stressful time, and the mounting expenses are quickly depleting their savings.

Julie is Tony’s main caregiver along with the help of their daughters Alyssa & Lauren. Julie has not left the hospital since the transplant occurred, making both her and Tony’s return dates to work uncertain.
