Team Up for Toni's Care and Healing
Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Kaila and I have organized this fundraiser on behalf of my family, and most importantly, my mom Toni.
In 2019, Toni was diagnosed with Stage III Ovarian Cancer, after having a hysterectomy.
Her prognosis was good, and she completed chemotherapy on October 31st.
Fast forward to January 2022, Toni's doctors found that the cancer had returned, this time residing in her abdominal wall. Her doctors immediately put her on a regiment of nine rounds of chemotherapy, with each round occurring every three weeks. She completed her ninth round in August, and after a few weeks, she had a PET scan to check in with how the chemo had been working against the ovarian cancer. The scan revealed a growth in her lungs, and Toni had a biopsy of the lung growth earlier this month. The biopsy showed the growth was a variant of Ovarian cancer, and due to the new location of it it progressed her to Stage IV. While the team is satisfied the growth is not a new cancer, it may or may not have disturbed her lungs.
On September 18th, Toni was admitted to the Seton Medical Center in Austin with pain in both her chest and back. The doctors found she has a partially collapsed right lung and pneumonia. The team at Seton administered antibiotics and oxygen while also focusing on pain management. It’s taken several iterations to optimize the medication for pain management, but Toni is in a much better place. In fact, Toni was released from the hospital on September 24th with pain meds and oxygen, and moved home with her husband.
Moving Toni home has had its ups and downs. Toni has been immeasurably more comfortable in her own space, and she seems more like her self than she did in the hospital. However, she is still very weak and in significant pain, as well as a medley of other side effects. Her husband, Adam, works less than a minute away, but she is still too feeble to stay home alone. This past week our family has generously been donating their time to stay with her and keep her comfortable and nurtured while we research a care team to help her. We are awaiting to hear from her oncologist, Dr. Knowles, this week in order to see what the next steps are for her treatment. The doctors have made it seem that we will be continuing treatment once her pain is more manageable, which in turn will weaken her even further, making the need for a caretaker even more urgent.
This GoFundMe aims to help Adam and his children with the expensive cost of a caretaker coming to the house to take care of Toni in her weakened state. Additionally, it will help cover any expenses not covered by insurance, such as her PET scans and other imaging. Any donation that could be made would be an enormous aid to the Brinckmann family and would go directly to Adam to fund this new endeavor to support Toni in her healing.
Additionally, any prayer groups or prayer chains you could add Toni to would be much appreciated.
God bless you all and thank you.
