Toni's Flower Apprenticeship
Donation protected
Hello Friends, Family, Fellow Farmers, Artists and Gardeners.
I am happy to announce that I have been accepted into a three month flower apprenticeship with the flower farm and design studio SAIPUA. SAIPUA is a 107 acre farm in upstate NY with a design studio in Brooklyn. I will be working from and living in both locations. I will be learning the inner workings of flower farming and growing for production, as well as the business end such as; photography, floral design, marketing, distribution and learning the language of flowers in order to create arrangements and backdrops for weddings, galas and various events.
My housing in Upstate is covered as are my meals and transportation to and from New York City. However, my housing in Brooklyn is not. I am saving as diligently as possible but as you can imagine, City housing is expensive! I am trying to raise this money by July 27th in hopes to sublet a room in the City for three months.
As many of you know, we were unable to renew the lease on our urban acre after three years of running Lost City Farm. This is the first year in a long while that I am not actively producing food and flowers. It feels strange, but I am using this opportunity while we look for a new home for Lost City Farm to go learn more about other avenues in agriculture --flowers! My hope is that I can bring back what I learn from this farmer/florist opportunity to the Reno community and use this knowledge to diversify our business, adding cut flowers and design to Lost City Farm once we find our new location!
Your support in any amount would directy be contributing to my skills as a farmer and my dream in creating a sustainable model for small scale farming. In honor of you and your donation, I have some humble offerings as my way of saying thanks.
Thank you all for your support!
Sincerely,
Toni Ortega
