The Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha'apai volcano, about 30 kilometers southeast of Tonga's Fonuafo'ou island, sits underwater between two small islands at about 2,000 meters high from the sea floor, with about 100 meters visible above sea level. The Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha'apai volcano first erupted on Friday and a second time on Saturday. The eruptions sent a plume of ash, gas and steam 20 kilometers into the air. The eruption caused a severe tsunami with waves flowing onto coastal roads and flooding properties causing significant damage along the western coast.

 

As a result, many Tongans have lost everything. As it will take time to re-build these communities, the most immediate need is fresh drinking water and food. This Go Fund Me is to gather funds to send supplies such as food, water, clothing, and any other requested supplies to the people of Tonga.

 

This fundraiser is being organized by members of the Puke Village including Ma'u Fangupo, Kafo'ou Fihaki, Mone Wolfgramm and Lafo & Tuli Vaitohi. This is a small fundraiser without a nonprofit organization to donate to at this time so we will be unable to provide any tax write-offs. If you feel more comfortable, you are welcome to venmo @siale-vaitohi directly with small funds. 100% of the money will be donated to the people of Tonga.

Update: the cost to ship a container will be $6500 so that it will arrive in a timely fashion. This will not cover the cost for the supplies or anything included in the container.
