Hi - we're Tone Cluster - Quite a Queer Choir. We're an Ottawa, Ontario-based mixed voices SATB choir made up of LGBTQA+ individuals and allies. We started as a small madrigal group 21 years ago, and today are a bright ensemble singing songs with a focus on Canadian and LGBTQ composers. We are a small choir composed of about 30 members, and we do most of the legwork on our own fundraising (with some help with grants from the City of Ottawa and government of Ontario). Our budget is much smaller than many other LGBT choirs in North America, but we are a mighty group who strive to put on concerts, to increase people's range of new and different repertoire, and to bring awareness to social issues affecting the LGBTQA+ community through song.
We are heading to Denver for the first week of July 2016 for GALA festival. This festival brings LGBTQA+ choirs from across North America (and some internationally) together for a week-long celebration of music, concerts, workshops and community-building. We are very excited because Tone Cluster was chosen for an exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity - to sing at a coveted "Coffee Concert", which is an hour of music and an audience of thousands. Only 8 out of 150+ choirs get this opportunity every 4 years. You can see in our video what our concert is about - We Got Issues. Each song we've chosen speaks to a different social issue we come against in this world.
This concert is more expensive for us to put on, however, than a regular concert. Tech fees alone are 3000$ USD, and we have one of the smallest budgets of the choirs doing Coffee Concerts. We have diligently fundraised all year through many means to get all choristers who needed subsidies to Denver, but now we need your help.
The money will be used to help cover Denver tech fees, transportation subsidies for choristers while in Denver, and to finish subsidizing individual chorister trips.
We are running this campaign until mid-July, to try to maximize our fundraising. Funds will be used and allocated as needed.
This means so much to us because we have come such a long way from a small group of singers to a large group of like-minded individuals who all have one goal: to sing, to sing, to sing, and to make it stick with you. To make music make a difference to you. To move you, to motivate you, and to make you feel as connected to the messages the music brings as we do. We want to be as successful as we can be in Denver. This is our time to shine.
The video promo in this campaign refers to our upcoming June concert, but it's the exact same concert we're taking with us to Denver - to be performed July 4, 2016.
We will be so thankful for any donation we receive. Please help us offset our Denver costs! We are a registered non-profit Charity in Canada, and we can issue tax receipts to Donors where necessary. If you'd like a tax receipt, please include your address when donating - it will remain confidential.
Thank you for helping us make this dream-turned-reality a success for us.
