Dear Friends,
Tom Verga, as you may know, donated a kidney to his brother Frank. He is now facing a very critical and life changing event as his remaining kidney has failed. Last month, his doctor told him he had 2 weeks to 4 months before the onset of terminal renal failure. This was very unexpected news for Tom and his family. He did not expect this life changing illness at this point in his life and he took action. University of California San Francisco Medical Center Transplant Center has interviewed and thoroughly examined him for a transplant. Their initial decision was that a kidney could only come from a living donor. Thankfully this decision was appealed and he is now a candidate for a cadaver organ at UCSF. Tom was placed on the top of their list to receive a transplant due to being a past donor himself and now losing his remaining kidney.
Nonetheless and as you can imagine, the unexpected cost to him and his family is going to be a factor. Medical expenses, medications, lodging, meals, travel and the unforeseen including the expense for a live donor along with them facing interrupted salary and expenses. His wife, Cynthia, and Tom will have their incomes suspended during a period of anticipated hospital stays until he has fully recovered.
Tom is very healthy for his age and always in good spirits. He is a gentleman, known as kind and generous and always ready to help others in need. Now I, on behalf of Tom and his family, am humbly asking for your help. Please and thank you, any amount is greatly appreciated. We ask that you keep Tom and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Please forward to our friends.
Thank you for your help,
Chris Kandell
