Tom's EPIC Ultra Marathon

So why take on an Ultra Marathon, having never completed a Marathon itself?

My motivation for doing so comes in the form of an old friend, who has battled back against a long standing gambling addiction and is now showing huge mental resilience by not only taking back control of his life through recovery but also having the bravery of telling his story and thus becoming a role model for change.

Illnesses come in all different formats, some mental and some physical. I myself have had challenges throughout the pandemic through a total loss of income and i've found running has enabled me to build coping mechanisms to deal with the challenges that have been thrown my way.

There is absolutely know doubt that Covid will impact far beyond the immediate and my concerns surrounding mental health and the silent impact Covid will have on many across the country, compels me to try and make a difference where I can.

I've decided to focus my attentions on what lies close to my heart. Seeing and publicly hearing of Chris' struggles as well as seeing the amazing things he is now achieving, motivates me to try and help others that may well be struggling with gambling addictions, having a huge adverse effect on their mental health.

I'd like to raise £5,300 for the EPIC Restart Foundation, which equates to £100 for ever mile I run. This Ultra Marathon will be run in one day, as I participate in the Race To The King Ultra, starting in Arundel and finishing at Winchester Cathedral. The money raised can do so many amazing things, not least give someone the support that they undeniably need to seek help and take back their life.

EPIC Restart Foundation is a brand new charity set up to provide professional training and practical support and help to those recovering from a gambling addiction. The Foundation will support those who have suffered gambling harm on the final part of their recovery journey to build resilience, find new and meaningful opportunities and so positively restart their lives after gambling.
The foundation isn’t linked to any charitable platforms as of yet, hence the need for a go fund me page. You can check their existence via their charitable number 1192907.

Just know any money you donate will have a huge impact on someone's life and may just make all the difference.

There is a link attached, which will take you to an open and brutally honest overview of Chris' story that he told during a podcast interview with Tony Adams for the charity Sporting Chance.

Thanks

Tom
