The last few years have proven to be rather difficult for my dad and my family. A little under a year ago, on June 17th, my mom, and his beloved wife of almost 30 years, Karen, passed away in the same hospital that just recently cared for him. Shortly after, my uncle John, who is my dads eldest brother, passed away. After the passing of my mom, I began to see and feel the slight financial pressure due to the loss of her income. While it has been manageable with some sacrifices this past year, all it took was one emergency to tip the scale.

On May 27th, Memorial Day, my dad woke me up experiencing excruciating stomach pain that was far too acute to ignore. I drove him to urgent care, where they thankfully thought it best to rush him to the hospital. After several preliminary tests, it was found that the pain he was experiencing was due to a ruptured intestine. The decision was made for him to undergo emergency surgery on Tuesday, May 28th. After the procedure, my dad spent several days in the intensive care unit, after which he remained in the hospital until June 7th.

My family and I are working to obtain temporary disability for the time being, but that process is proving to be rather difficult and may take some time. Additionally, short term disability will not equate to his normal income amount which will prove to be problematic when factoring in the possibility of expenses not covered by insurance, medical supplies and monthly bills. We are already starting to feel the pressure of missing his income, and still likely have a couple weeks to go until we see any relief from temporary disability. The bills, medical and everyday day life expenses are quickly adding up to an amount that is not feasible for us to sustain in the weeks to come. It would mean the world to me if you could help my dad and I in a great time of need.
