Tom's Fight Against Disability and Debt
Donation protected
It is with a combination of both embarrassment and desperation that I am reaching out to anyone willing and able to help.
My name is Tom Mongelli and as some of you know I’ve been living in an assisted living facility since September of 2024, due to a series of medical issues. Without going into too many details, the move has proven to be a Godsend, especially regarding my chronic and debilitating depression which was only exacerbated in my previous isolated living scenario. In addition I was forced into an early retirement three years ago when Vertigo symptoms prevented me from maintaining employment. My struggle to get approved for Permanent Disability has been ongoing since then, and my finances were such that I was forced into Chapter 7 Bankruptcy to survive.
I’ve never been comfortable asking for help from others but I am at the end of my rope. The cost of the assisted living facility has become insurmountable. I’m forced to pay rent and fees for two full years before they will accept my Medicaid as payment. Between my Social Security and monthly financial help from my brother we’ve been able to make the payments. However, circumstances are such that I am no longer able to meet this growing expense in its entirety.
I humbly ask that anyone whose life I’ve touched over the years find it within your heart to contribute what you can. I’ve always been all about helping others, but I’ve never felt right asking help for myself. Please know that this is not easy; just necessary.
Respectfully,
Tom Mongelli
