In Spring 2021, I was diagnosed with Bulbar ALS. I'm fighting with every fiber in my body, but it's an uphill battle every day. As my disease progresses, medical expenses will continue to pile on. I will make sure to keep everyone updated as my journey continues...
In April 2014, I suffered a traumatic brain injury when I was ejected from a car during a crash. I broke many bones along with my brain injury. Through hard work, dedication, and help from above, I made a full recovery and finally began to thrive in my career as a Software Developer. Then I began developing symptoms in 2020 and was diagnosed with ALS in Spring 2021.
I first had difficulty swallowing liquids, then my voice became hoarse, then my annunciation started to decline. I lived in denial for many months and continued to fight the disease as hard as I could. Then I found MNRI from a dear friend, Kaity. These easy, at-home exercises have been the key to my success thus far. I can't stress the importance of MNRI for all people afflicted with a neurodegenerative disease.
However, ALS is a progressive disease that continues to rear its ugly head in many ways every day. In the Spring/Summer of 2022, I started to have an increasing left-hand weakness. My left index finger began "curling" and I cannot fully extend my finger or open my hand fully. Also, I began to notice gait disturbance in the Summer of 2022. My balance is worsening and I require compensation to walk or climb stairs.
My greatest fear is becoming a financial burden on my wife, Shannon. As my disease continues to progress, I will require resources that are not covered by insurance and are very expensive. In-home wheelchair ramps, wheelchair-accessible vans, devices to aid in fine motor activities, breathing ventilators, and eye scanning devices are all resources I am finding that I will require.
We also have a son, Dylan, who is fourteen months at the start of this GoFundMe. With enough money, I can travel for clinical trials far away that offer more hope for me to remain an active mentor in his life. I am starting this fundraiser now to alleviate Shannon from financial burden in the future by building up a trust fund for her and Dylan to access when needed.
I am forever grateful for any amount you can give now or in the future. I have the best friends and family anyone could ask for. It pains me to ask for favors, but I must put my ego aside for the sake of my family. Thank you for reading this and thank you for your help.
