Hi There,
My name is Tom Voigt and on September 17th 2022 I will be running a half marathon around the Albert Park Lake. I will be running for a cause close to my heart, supporting Indigenous communities with disadvantages. I will be supporting this cause through the Hawthorn Hawks Foundation as they deliver multiple programs that incentivize children in Indigenous communities to attend school.
Here is some information about the Hawthorn Hawks Foundation and what they do.
Their aim is to close the gap in Indigenous health and education by delivering programs that focus on improving the education, mental health and social/emotional well-being of Indigenous people. Their aim is to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to reach their full potential. I have selected to support the school attendance program within the Hawthorn Hawks foundation
What is the School Attendance Program
The School Attendance Program is currently run in the Beswick (Wugularr) and Wadeye communities with the aim of increasing school attendance rates of young people in the Northern Territory.
The program is run through reward and recognition incentives for students who attend at least 80% of classes each term.
These students are sent Hawthorn merchandise as an encouragement to continue to attend school consistently.
Furthermore, students are given the opportunity to participate in organized games of football after school, run by AFLNT trainees who are trained young adults in the community.
How can you play your role?
