"Bobby....I'm stronger than you, smarter than you, more athletic than you, DEFINITELY better at lacrosse than you, and most importantly....I'm better looking than you!"
"Tommy, you're balding.....shut up..."
My brother, Tommy, was a beloved brother, son, grandson and friend. Oh....and he had one HELL of a sense of humor! We had some BATTLES together!
Growing up, Tommy was your All-American boy: smart, good-looking, personable, athletic, and definitely CONFIDENT. My friends would joke that he was the "Phenom" because there wasn't anything he couldn't do.
Throughout his athletic career in football, hockey, and lacrosse, he played every practice and game like it was his last. No one wanted to win or be the one to win the game more than him. His confidence and competitiveness was contagious and it always showed.
As an older brother, how can you not be proud of your younger brother with all the success he had?
I'll tell you one thing, it wasn't anything I taught him! He was born with those qualities.
Unfortunately, it was those qualities that were the beginning of his decline.
Because he played everyday like it was his last, that physical nature he possessed caught up to him in the end. Through multiple athletic injuries throughout his body and head, misinformed medical awareness we received from the medical community, and a lack of understanding of his pain and struggle from our own family, these phases led to an opioid addiction that took his life in May of 2018.
My family and I have created Tommy's Tomorrow to not just remember the life of my brother, Tommy Labadini, but to raise money to end the over prescription of pain medication to student-athletes by the medical community and create an outlet for families going through similar struggles our family went through.
We are raising money so when your sons and daughters enter into athletics, they will have a better tomorrow.
In hopes to raise even MORE money...I'm putting my money where my mouth is! This will be my third Boston Marathon and sadly....I've never run it under 4 hours! Embarrassing I know...
My goal is to raise $5,000 for the Tommy's Tomorrow cause.
If I DON'T get under 4 hours on race day..... I will match that $5,000!
BUT - I will only do it if YOU help me get to my goal of $5,000.
This Patriots Day, my quads will be BURNING as I roll up on HEART BREAK HILL....but make my WALLET hurt even more!
