Hello everyone, I want to begin by introducing myself; my name is Amy, I am Umesh's girlfriend. His full name is Umesh Bajoon. Tommy is his nickname from when he was younger, you can refer to him using that name, he loves the nickname, and it's honestly, easier to say than his actual name (Umesh). The doctors say that he has Colitis but there's something out of the ordinary about the disease... our families and I have been working with him to see if we could figure out what it could be. He's had Colitis for about 3 years now, and there still hasn't been any progressive improvements. Most doctors that he has seen treat his condition like every textbook definition of Colitis, but the truth is, each case is unique in its own way and Umesh's condition is unlike any other we've ever read about. He experiences flare-ups (which is intense inflammation in his colon) very often. It occurs anywhere from one week to 1 month apart from each flare up. The last time we visited the ER, it was because he was experiencing intense pain in his clavicle, and it prevented him from moving - making him bed-ridden. The doctors said that it was the inflammation from the Colitis, spreading throughout his body, and it just so happened that it made it up to his clavicle bone. Ever since then, the inflammation has continued to spread all throughout his body, and nothing can be done for it... So the doctors say. He's been using Tylenol arthritis pain for it because Tylenol is the only anti-inflammatory pain reliever that his body does not reject. At this moment, the inflammation actually spread to his groin area, so now it is extremely difficult for him to move and get around. Due to this illness, he was forced to leave two jobs, and can't make it to school (college) on some days. He has lost a ton of weight due to the immense amount of blood loss, became depressed, antisocial, and lost a big part of his personality. My mom found an IBS treatment center with great results a while ago, but it is in California, and actually costs a lot of money. We wanted to try our luck there to see if they could do something to help Umesh get back to living his life again. We also wanted to speak to different GI specialists to see what they have to say. (He has visited one before, but it is extremely difficult to get an appointment with that particular doctor, considering that it is the GI specialist in the hospital). Umesh feels that his last resort and the only cure is to cut out the part of his colon where the inflammation is located, but our fear is what if it somehow comes back. There are many possibilities that could happen from something that extreme. My family and I told him that before he does that, he should try to make sure to do everything possible and god forbid nothing works at that point, then I guess there's nothing else we can do. The funds received from this fundraiser would go towards getting him the medical help and attention he deserves. The funds are urgently needed, but are, and always have been extremely patient. Anything at all will help, it is all appreciated. I look forward to hearing from everyone and I hope our voices will be heard. Thank you for taking time out to read Umesh's story.
P.S. Thank you so much to everyone who took their time out! It is all much appreciated <3
