Tommys Leukemia Fundraiser

Today is my nephew Tommys 3rd birthday, he is the baby of his family living in Ratoath. He loves Paw Patrol, animals and Chocolate Milk. He loves his big brothers Eoghan 9, Leon 8, Eric 19 and big sister Shannon 6.

Tommy is funny, affectionate and had just started playschool.

Just before Halloween Tommy was brought to hospital with croup after a series of other illnesses but Tommy didn’t recover at home as would have been expected from a seasonal virus. His mammy Roisin knew something wasn’t right and when she brought him to two more hospitals it wasn’t until the doctors at Drogheda hospital saw how life threatening his illness was he was rushed to Temple Street ICU by ambulance. After multiple tests and days of agony Roisin and Paul (Tommy’s mammy and daddy) were utterly devastated to be told that Tommy had Acute Myloid Leukemia. Tommy spent five weeks in ICU in Crumlin Children’s Hospital on and off a ventilator hooked up to multiple drips of antibiotics and drugs.

He started chemotherapy on 5th November and we are praying that his body responds to the treatment. Tommy’s cancer is so rare that the course of chemotherapy he is undergoing is being tested. It is still unknown what subtype of AML cancer he has. It’s only seen in elderly people.

He has a long road ahead of him. It is a miracle that Tommy has defied the odds so far these past 6 weeks fighting so many infections including pneumonia, RSV and sepsis.

This go fund me page is a means to financially support Tommy’s family to allow them to focus on him getting better, to be by his side constantly. Tommy’s parents have always worked but caring for Tommy means neither parent can work. One parent must remain by Tommy’s side and the other parent minds the 3 primary school children at home whilst also commuting every day to relieve the other parent.

This is the greatest challenge Tommy’s family have ever had to face.
