I just wanted to update you on my recovery after breaking my pelvis and my surgery at the end of March. I saw my doctor last week and he said everything looks good, but the feeling may never fully comeback and I still need to walk with a cane. He recommended another 6 weeks of recovery and continued 3 days of week of Physical Therapy.

I told him that after being on LOA from work for the last 21 weeks, but with no family here and living by myself I need to get back to my job. I also told him last week was the last time I went to my PT because I couldn't afford the copayments any longer. After 5 weeks in the hospital, I came home to over $20k in bills that my insurance didn't cover.

He understood but is only allowing me to go back as part time next week and no more than 4 hours a day. I work in retail and walk a lot doing it. Walking around doing my job with a cane will be my new challenge. My goal is to be back walking without the cane by my next appointment in October.

Thanks again to all the people that have messaged me with all the kind words, prayers and support during my painful recovery. They kept me motived to keep this going when I was in the pains of PT.

As I said to the everyone before, I'm neither a professional writer nor historian.
I've lived mostly all of my life on Long Island and have always been fascinated by its rich and varied history. I created Long Island History in 2015 as a private group. I imagined that it would reach some friends, family and a few others to be able to share stories. It has grown into Long Islanders that now live all around the world.

The many long forgotten and unique tales and people I've found, have given me a glimpse into what Long Island was really like long ago and hopefully in a way that brought them “back to life again”.

I've tried to mix the posts from the well-known stories and historical people of Long Islands past, to the forgotten common person and unique stories that can't be found easily today. All the stories and people are just as interesting as the famous ones and just as important in forming the fabric of the Long Island we know today. Remembered by few, but ready to be retold.

Please consider a financial contribution to support future and my medical expenses. If you can't donate, I understand and just ask for the continued prayers. I hope for continuing growth, learning from the posts and hopeful that these stories continue to peek the interest of those who read them and brings back to life the stories and people of a long-ago Long Island.

Thanks again and Peace to my Long Island family
Tom
