Michael "Tommy" Dubose had an extremely challenging life. Born with a developmental disability that went undiagnosed until much later in life, he grew up in Georgia, Florida, and Ohio without privilege and ended up in California battling substance usage and facing legal troubles. He was finally being diagnosed and connected to proper treatment. Despite his battles, he made friends everywhere he went, and it was apparent to everyone who met him how special he was. He hadn't seen his family in ten years but was doing much better with the support of the Regional Center and the court system when disaster struck. He was found unconscious and hospitalized for seven days before being identified. His family, who have no funds, used every penny they had and more to be with him. He battled organ failure and diffuse neurological damage and unfortunately after about two weeks he passed away. Full details about what caused this remain pending.
His mother, Becky, who lives in Jacksonville, flew to be by his side and spent the last week with bjm. His father, Dean, also flew in to see him briefly. Neither has funds to cover the expenses they incurred from the flights, hotel stays, or other costs.
Becky would also like to have him cremated and his remains returned to her.
This fundraising effort is to defray expenses his family, who hadn't seen him in ten years and are not from means, are accrued to come visit him while he battled for his life and to cover cremation and other end of life expenses.
