Tommy Ries was diagnosed with Hurlers Syndrome when he was 9 months of age.Hurler syndrome is the most severe form of mucopolysaccharidosis type 1, a rare lysosomal storage disease, characterized by skeletal abnormalities, cognitive impairment, heart disease, respiratory problems, enlarged liver and spleen, characteristic facies and reduced life expectancy. It was devastating for all of the family but he was loved and the family went to work to save him. His mom studied the disease and found out that he had a better chance of living beyond 2 years of age by having a bone marrow transplant. His sister, Kirsten Ries 4 years old
was a perfect match. They all flew to Minnesota to the University hospital to have the operation. It all went well, but through the years, the disease took its toll on Tommy. He left this earth on September 20, 2019, 22 years of age. He lived a life filled with chicken nuggets, chocolate chip cookies, matchbox cars and trucks, and movies. The family has been through a lot during his lifetime and could really use help in funding the funeral for Tommy. Please donate to help them through this very difficult time. Thank you.
