Help Two Children Orphaned in Terrorist Attack

Dear friends (and friends of friends),

Like all of you, we have been watching the news in Israel with deep heartache and shock. Yesterday, we received confirmation that our 3rd cousins, Chen and Rinat Even from Kibbutz Be’eri, along with their two older sons, Alon and Ido, were murdered by Hamas terrorists on October 7, leaving behind their two youngest sons, Tomer and Nir. We understand that the family went into their safe room upon hearing the rocket sirens and remained there for seven hours, leaving only after terrorists set their house on fire. As they went outside, Chen managed to eliminate a terrorist who was waiting for them and then hide the family nearby. However, the terrorists found them and opened fire. The parents and older boys were killed while bravely shielding Tomer and Nir from the bullets.

Having endured unimaginable trauma, Tomer and Nir, ages 11 and 8, are now orphans. They will be cared for by relatives in Israel but their needs, material and psychological, will outstrip this family’s resources.

In addition to helping Tomer and Nir personally, we have established this GoFundMe campaign because so many of you have asked how you can help. We also feel that it is so important to show Tomer, Nir, and all Israelis how many people are standing with them in their darkest moment.

We are going to cover all of the transaction and other costs associated with this effort, so please know that 100% of your gift will go to the boys (there is no need to “tip” GoFundMe or gross up your gift to cover the transaction fees).

Even as we mourn for our family, we grieve for each and every one of the 1,400 innocent victims of the atrocities of that dark day. Additionally, our thoughts are with the families and friends of the 200 hostages in Gaza, who will remain in our hearts until they come home.
