My name is Pat and my story is about my husband, Tom Dooley. He was the Superintendant of Programs and Park & Recreation Director for 30 years. He has created programs for every age group and for families alike. He has always put the well being, pleasure and fun of others before himself. He had so much more to offer, but was stopped by a disease he was recently diagnosed with.
He has not been working for four years, this disease has made working an impossibility, but we didn't know this until recently. We just thought too many people applying for too few jobs made finding a job more and more difficult. If only that were the reason.
Tom has CADASIL. It is a rare neurological disease that effects the brain, it is charactized by migraine headaches, multiple strokes leading to the early onset of dementia, cognitive deterioration, seizures and psych problems. There is no cure, it is terminal, and only some symptoms can be treated. Tom is 58 years young.
Of those symptoms, Tom suffers with strokes, seizures, cognitive deterioration and psych issues. Put simply, he is memory getting worse, he has trouble following everyday instructions, seizures bring on slurred and difficult speech, he can no longer drive, and has difficult time walking. He loses time, sometimes days.
We are asking that funds be raised for medical bills we have incurred, to pay for care at home and for Toms last wishes. There are a few more things he wants to see and do before the disease takes him.
If we could receive help, I would be able to be home with him during his final time here. I am frequently leaving work to care for him when seizures orTIAs (small strokes) come and have used all of my paid time off. With help, I could give Tom the care he needs an d continue to work and be there when I am needed.
Tom and I would be very greatful for any help received. Writing this has been difficult on many levels, especially emotionally. We have never had to ask for financial help before, it has been very humbling. Thank you for your consideration.
