On June 15, 2016 at 1650 hours, SimiValley Police motor officer, Tom Carney, was riding his motorcycle south bound on Tapo Canyon Road at Los Angeles Ave. As he crossed through the intersection, a small pickup truck, that was driving north bound, made a u-turn directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

Officer Carney collided with the truck and was thrown from his motorcycle. He sustained very serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. He underwent several hours of surgery on Wednesday night and may have additional surgeries over the next few days/weeks to address his injuries.

Officer Carney has been working for the Simi Valley Police Department for 14 years after having served with the Prescott Valley, AZ, Police Department and the United States Marine Corp. He is assigned to the Department's Traffic Enforcement/Motor Unit.

A "GoFundMe" account has been established in Officer Carney's name. Donations will help offset any immediate financial needs such as medical bills, child care, loss of income and any other unexpected expense.

The Simi Valley Police Department sincerely appreciates the support we have received from the community as well as the support from our allied law enforcement agencies.
