Tomato Soup in Skid Row

Thank you for taking the time and reading this campaign.

"Tomato Soup in Skid Row" is a journey in the heart of Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles where we can hear the voice and learn from the direct experience of human beings that are or have experienced the American phenomenon known as homelessness.
Like from a "famous iconic American soup can" words and emotions will pour out like the soup of a soup kitchen.
Why is it important to hear these voices and know these stories?
Because we need to understand that homelessness in America is a situation pointing to a systemic failure and not a personal failure.
To understand this is imperative in order to have the hope to solve one day this incredible problem.
I wrote this short film inspired by my experience when I arrived in Los Angeles in 2016 and after seeing what I could explain only by describing it as the biggest refugee camp in the heart of our great nation: the USA.
I could not believe the magnitude of what I was seeing, block after block, tent after tent.
I decided to voice this incredible universe and armed with my camera, a thick red tape, a roll of white paper and all the love and courage I could find (love for them and courage for me and my fears).
Skid Row is an area bounded by Main, Alameda, 3rd and 7th streets, has a population of 6000 homeless people at any given time and 41,8% of the population is below the poverty line.
Here is a link to see the portraits I took between 2016 and 2017.

Now with my second short film I would love to give voice to the portraits and that is why I wrote this film and why I ask for your help to produce it and release it.

We are planning to produce, shoot and edit the short towards the end of March and have it ready for festival submissions by April.
I wanted to thank you all from the depth of my heart for your help and it would be a pleasure to add your name in the end credits of the movie if you like.

Also if I will raise more money than necessary I would love to donate the rest to LACAN in Skid Row where everyone in need is helped everyday by Pete and his wonderful team.

As perks we created for donations of 200$ and above, a print (11x14") of the poster of the film.
