Running for Tom and Sharon

Hi everyone. My name is Jillian Lagasse and this fundraiser is in honor of my parents, Tom and Sharon Vanorny. In early 2014, we were dealt two blows of bad news: my mom was diagnosed with non-hodgkin's lymphoma and my dad was diagnosed with hairy cell leukemia. Although their fights against cancer were quite different, one thing I am certain of: they both escaped death because of Avera St. Luke's Cancer Care Center in Aberdeen, SD. This long, hard, and continuing journey is made possible because of the amazing care of Dr. Conklin and his staff at Avera.
This year, my siblings and I decided to run the Fargo marathon in honor of my mom and dad (Team Vanorny!). While none of us are actually running the full marathon, we will have participants in the 5k, 10k, and half marathon - all in honor of Team Vanorny.
The money raised through this effort will be donated directly to the Avera Cancer Care Center in Aberdeen (http://www.avera.org/st-lukes-hospital/services/cancer/) . It's especially good timing as they plan to expand their current cancer center - every dollar counts! In 2014, we spent countless hours at the hospital bedside and chemo room at Avera, and the staff was incredible. This journey was made a little less painful because of the wonderful care my parents received at Avera. Instead of donating money to a national cancer organization, we are choosing to donate directly to the facility that saved the lives of Team Vanorny.
Please consider donating to our effort! Not only will it help motivate us to run many many miles, it will also aid in the care and treatment of other patients like my mom and dad. We are forever grateful for your support of this cause!
