Tom's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Saturday, July 11, 2020, my brother, Tom Corrigan, Jr. was involved in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident in Georgetown, FL.  He resides in Kingsford, MI, but had been working in Florida for several months, living in his "home away from home" at an RV Park.

He was less than a mile from the entrance to the RV park when he lost control of the bike somehow and was thrown.  He landed, face up-thank goodness, in a swampy area, while the bike continued on into a barbed wire fence nearby.  Witnesses were able to call 9-1-1 and emergency services had him airlifted to a trauma center in Gainesville, FL.

He was diagnosed with multiple injuries; head trauma that resulted in a brain bleed/bruising, facial trauma, including "road rash," lacerations, and fractures to his left eye socket and nasal passage, broken vertebra, which punctured his spinal column and required surgery the next day, broken ribs, and a broken left radius bone in his wrist area, which required surgery days later.  He was placed on a ventilator and placed under heavy sedation, essentially in a medically induced coma.  He was placed in the Intensive Care Unit, where he remains today.

Tom's fiance, Michelle, was notified in person by an acquaintance, through an extraordinary set of "it's a small world" circumstances, and she notified our parents.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only one visitor is allowed in the ICU, so it was decided quickly that Michelle would fly down to be with him as soon as possible, and she arrived late in the afternoon on Sunday, July 12, 2020.

We notified our family and close friends on the morning of Sunday, July 12, 2020, then in an attempt to keep them all updated, started a private facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/4263845463686065/?tn-str=*F), to which I am adding updates regularly.  In the overwhelming responses, many people have been asking how they can help and/or where they can make a donation, which resulted in this page being set up.   Additionally, for those who prefer not to use an electronic platform, donations will be accepted at Tom's credit union (see details on facebook page.)

We honestly had no idea how to estimate the expenses that will be needed in this process.  We know that Tom will not be able to work for some time, and there will be expenses in Michelle "living" with him in the hospital in Florida for the time being, travel back and forth for Michelle and her kids, who have graciously been helping her, potential travel for our family if there comes a time we can be there with him, also.  There are also expenses related to arranging for his property to be removed from the  and returned to Michigan.

Beyond those logistics, there may be much in the way of out-of-pocket medical expenses with the stay in ICU, being in a regular room afterward, any at-home care he may need, along with therapies, physical and occupational.  While there have been improvements already, we really have no idea what the future will bring, nor the kind of care that will be needed for Tom to heal well.

We thank each and every one of you for anything you have offered us, whether that is good thoughts, well wishes, prayers for healing, good juju, and/or donations to his care!  Every single bit of it is appreciated!
