It has been some years now since Tom passed away. He remains in our thoughts and in the thoughts of others, many of whom have thoughtfully asked whether there will be some tangible commemoration of Tom.
We decided that a fitting tribute would be a memorial to Tom at Worcester College, a place that meant so much to Tom. It has taken a while to get to the point where we are ready to take that step, I am sure that you will appreciate why for personal reasons this has not been a speedy process. Following great support and discussions with the team at Worcester College, in particular Professor Francis Reynolds with the help of Simon Bagnall, I am glad to say that a bench will be installed in Worcester College Gardens this summer with an inscription to Tom.
Tom loved his time at Worcester College and was always so happy to return as well as to spend time with the many close friends that he made during his time there. We last visited Worcester College in summer 2017 when Tom was already very unwell. I clearly remember walking in the gardens with Tom and our children. We read the inscriptions on the benches and Tom told me that he felt that is a wonderful way to be remembered. I have no doubt that he would be glad to see this project come to life in his memory.
A number of you voiced previously that you would like to be involved in creating a memorial. If you do still feel that way and would like to contribute then this page gives the opportunity to do so and to make sure that we do not overshoot our target. Please do not feel any pressure or obligation however.
Come what may we will let you know the location of the bench in due course. If you happen to be in the area some day then please take a moment to sit and remember some of the good times that you spent together.
Thank you for reading. We hope that you are well and look forward to catching up sometime soon.
