Help out our friend Tom Roberts!

Our mutual friend Tom Roberts is sick and needs our help!
You may know Tom as your piano teacher, or from accompanying silent films around Pittsburgh, as founder of the Hot Club of Pittsburgh, as a sometimes co-host on WESA’s Swing and Sway radio program, or as Leon Redbone’s piano player, or from his days in New Orleans, or from the many other cities and neighborhoods he’s lived in, etc. etc.
What happened?
In the middle of the night on January 1st of this year, Tom experienced low blood pressure, passed out and hit his head hard on the floor. He ended up in the hospital with two traumatic brain hemorrhages and also went into atrial fibrillation (heart arrhythmia). Due to the AFib they needed to give him a blood thinner to prevent blood clots and a stroke, but needed to give him another medication to reduce blood on the brain. Since then he’s made several more trips to the emergency room for evaluations, medication changes, and treatment.
Tom was rushed back into the emergency room this past Thursday, March 28th after they discovered that the bleeding on his brain has gotten much worse. His health is currently severely at risk. He has a new plan with his doctors to adjust medications and to be evaluated for possible brain surgery to remove the blood. He has a follow-up CT scan in two weeks to confirm next steps.
How is he now?
Tom is out of the hospital currently but is not permitted to do anything – he can’t drive, perform, walk the dog, nothing. He can’t teach or perform, so unfortunately his source of income is cut off.
That’s where we come in, and this GoFundMe can make a world of difference for him. We’re trying to raise $15,000 to help him out in the coming months. The cash will help him with his rent and bills, and also allow us to sign him up for a weekly meal delivery service. He needs to focus on treatment and recovery rather than stress about bills.
How to help!
1) Please make a donation in any amount!
2) Share a word of support when you donate - humor is encouraged!
3) Share the campaign link so that all of Tom’s friends can lend a hand
Thanks!
