Help Tom Rascon Avoid Eviction

  • Hi! Tom Rascon here and I need your help to get out of a negative bank balance which means at this time I cannot pay my rent of $2,160 which after fees from the property is now $3,215.23

Today I received my Notice to Vacate for Non-Payment of Rent, Utilities or other Sums.
They are charging me $3,215.23 and given me until 11:59 PM on the 8th of August, 2024 to vacate the premises.

As you can see from the picture, I have lost a significant amount of weight. Almost 50 lbs since the start of the year. Not a bad thing, however, I have been in a constant state of pneumonia since March of this year, leading me to my own frustration. As many know, I have Severe COPD, what you may not know is that I have only 25% capacity left in my lungs. So, I have to work to keep my stress down.

It used to be I would watch TV, work on the computer or puzzles. When I first moved from where Charlotte and I lived, I went to an Active Senior facility. Not a bad place but dated. I had no idea what I was doing as I had not had to live as a single person for almost fifty years and set up housekeeping from scratch.

Fast forward, of the friends I made in that facility, 3 have died in the last couple of years, leading to me becoming more isolated. The community increased my rent by almost $300 a year three times and was again going to raise it the next lease cycle to "market rate" of $3,200 per month from $2,957. I decided then that I needed to make changes.
I moved to a different senior living apartment complex the 1st of March this year. The move cost me much more than I had allowed for. The move ended up costing me $1,423. Got it done in one day. Had a loss of a package that had tools, picture hangers, such. They paid based on the weight of the package and I only got $30 in compensation for what has already cost me $200 to replace.

With the move and the updated surroundings, I have been much happier and done things differently to set this place up. Believe it or not, I still have a couple of unopened boxes. I lost my landline and internet provider who I'd had for years and that put me on this negative path.

I signed up for streaming services from Hulu, Disney+, Paramount, YouTube Premium, Apple. While I got entertainment, I got fees. I could not control when they would debit my account. What happened is every one of these accounts, including Netflix, was hitting my account when my account was negative resulting in overdraft fees. Which so far this year have cost me over $700 in fees, plus the price of the service.
I had signed up for a service called Flex which took my rent and split it into two payments per month.
I was able to save $200 from my SSA to put with the Flex payment of $2,160 the first of the month as then was when my VA Pension came in that is $2,034. They Flex another $808 the second part of the month plus a service fee of $15.
On top of this was auto insurance monthly, Caregiver expenses, Oxygen and Cell phones, a credit card payment of $75 and groceries. If these came in the wrong time of month they would generate overdraft fees.

I have since canceled all my streaming services to not have them negatively affect my account. I've been trying to right the ship myself, but have come to a place where my next move would be to the streets. I tried other properties for rent, much cheaper still and more room. But they want an annual income of four times the rent. I get a total of $3,918 a month. So, I was unable to get the lower rent properties. But I am paying less per month than what I was.
What I need is $3,500 to right the ship and not become a person experiencing homelessness at the same time. With what I learned in the last few months will allow me to not be in this situation again.
