My husband Tom recently passed away following a long battle with a rare form of cancer. Tom was passionate about skiing from an early age, starting with his aunt's home-made chair lift in upstate New York. Tom served as a ski patrolman and a ski instructor at the Canyons for over 40 years. He became an EMT, ER nurse, air transport nurse and the first EMT/ski patrolman in Utah. Tom was a Winter Emergency Care instructor, Medical Advisor, and member of the National Ski Patrol.
Being an optimist, Tom tried with every fiber in his being to beat his cancer. Occasionally, we would discuss our views of the afterlife. One time, he said he would love to be reincarnated as a ski patrol dog. He thought ski patrol dogs had the perfect life, running through the snow, riding chair lifts all day and happily helping people.
In Tom's memory, the family would like to raise enough money to purchase a ski patrol avalanche rescue puppy for the Park City Mountain resort to be named "Tommy" or "TK" and to support the Wasatch Back Country Rescue avalanche dog program. The puppy would be assigned to its handler for life. Go Fund Me money raised will be sent to the Park City Mountain Resort avalanche dog program. Any additional funds will be forwarded to the Wasatch Back Rescue program, benefitting all ski dog handling expenses in the Wasatch.
Thank you with all of my heart for your help to fulfill Tom's wishes and to give him a smile in heaven.
